Being Ready Starts with You!

Being ready for any type of emergency is as simple as planning ahead. Just like having a working smoke detector in your home , having an emergency supply kit and developing a family communications plan will put the tools you may need at your fingertips, no matter where you are in an emergency.

MAKE A KIT of emergency supplies

Orange County and local city officials and emergency professionals will be on the scene after an emergency, but they cannot reach everyone right away. Therefore, the best way to make you and your family safer is to be prepared before an emergency happens. Make an emergency supply kit of the most important items you may need in the event of an emergency. The kit should include enough supplies for each family members for at least 3 days.

CREATE A PLAN for what you will do in an emergency

Your family may not be together in the event of an emergency, so plan now how you will contact one another and review what you will do in different situations. Make a family communications plan that includes an evacuation plan and coordinates with your school, work and community. Practice this plan with your entire family.

BE AWARE about what may happen

Orange County can face any type of emergency - from earthquakes, floods, landslides and fires to tsunamis, manmade threats and health epidemics. We all need to know how to respond and prepare to help our own household take control of any emergency situation.
