Flooding

Did you know that flooding is one of Orange County’s most likely disasters, especially in South County communities?

Nationwide floods account for more than $1 billion in property losses annually, and everyone is susceptible to flood damagde, whether from storms, water main breaks, or sewer backups. In recent years, strong rain storms have been occurring more frequently than expected, and climatologists warn the trend may continue as the effects of climate change increase.

Flash floods can strike any time with little or no warning. Orange County streets and freeways can become rivers in seconds. Most flash flooding is caused by heavy rains concentrated over the same area and also from run-off from local hillsides and clogged storm drains.
