Being Ready Starts with You!

Whether you are a business owner, a manager or an employee, make sure you are prepared in the event of an emergency. While reports vary, as many as 40 percent of small businesses do not reopen after a major disaster like a flood or earthquake. These shuttered businesses were unprepared for a disaster; they had no plan or backup systems.

The best way to make sure you and your place of business is safe is to be prepared before disaster strikes.

MAKE A KIT of emergency supplies for your employees and customers

Orange County and local city officials and emergency professionals will be on the scene after an emergency, but they cannot reach everyone right away. Therefore, the best way to make you, your co-workers and employees safer is to be prepared before an emergency happens. Make an emergency supply kit of the most important items your employees and customers may need in the event of an emergency or during a period of unexpected confinement at your business.

CREATE A PLAN for what you, your employees and business will do in an emergency

When you start to develop your emergency plan, consider three subjects: human resources, physical resources and business continuity. Think about how a disaster could affect your employees, customers and workplace. Think about how you could continue doing business if the area around your facility is closed or streets are impassable. Think about what you would need to serve your customers even if your facility is closed.
